Storybook Cottage Holiday Home Tour Part 1

Hello dear friends!
Are your holiday preparations well underway?
I am so honored and excited to be participating in two homes tours this Wednesday and Friday.
I spent all of last week decorating our home.
A few of the rooms will not be featured on the official tours but I thought you might like to see them today.
First up is the main guest bathroom.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 080
Since I’ve never shared this space before I thought it might be fun to include a “before” picture.
This was the professional real estate listing photo.
In truth I would love to replace the dated scalloped bathroom sinks and groovy vanity. It’s on our “to do” list….probably #185.
This bathroom is a great example of “make do decorating”.
Just by painting the brown sponged walls a tranquil sea glass it immediately improved the overall look until we have the budget for a more costly remodel.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 077
The 30 year old cultured marble sinks have yellowed considerably over the years but the new wall color helps to tone it down.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 092
For a bit of holiday fun I added some garlands from Christmases past to the mirror and included a jolly snowman. Holiday Home Tour 2015 075
The next room on the tour is Sweet Guy’s bedroom. Which also has never been seen before today.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 049
It’s a small space which we tried to make the most of.
The 10 Cent Tour 050
The room had originally been painted a sandy brown. Given that most of Sweet Guy’s furniture is also brown we wanted a bit of contrast.
The 10 Cent Tour 054
He selected “billowing clouds” for the walls.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 042
At the foot of the bed I draped a faux pine garland so that he could hang up the ornaments he has collected over the years. I have always allowed my kids to pick out the ornament that is their hearts desire. So, while I wouldn’t necessarily relish the idea of Iron Man and Indiana Jones hanging on the Christmas tree I think it looks great on this garland in his room.

Other small touches are obligatory trees on favorite cars…
Holiday Home Tour 2015 019
…and Christmas crafts from years past.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 034
Of course when capturing kid spaces you may encounter the kid photo bomb. :)

Right next door is the guest room.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 069
I changed it up a bit from last years “Wintermint”.

Right down the hall is the master bedroom.
It too received a garland at the foot of the bed decorated with ornaments from my parents first Christmas together.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 093
Each nightstand has a bit of simple festive cheer as well.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 119-001
Lastly is the “son” room.
It is always a happy space that Sweet Guy and his friends love to hang out in.
We recently installed some additional lighting.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 134
I had searched high and low for light sconces that had an industrial feel yet would still work with the 18th century daybed.
Can you believe I found them for $19.99 a piece? Ikea of course.

As this has become a favorite reading spot the additional lighting is just perfect on cloudy days.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 144
Sweet Guy, now 14, asked me to pick out this years ornament for him. It was bittersweet until I brought home the telephone booth, London bus and Big Ben from Tuesday Morning. He smiled wide and deemed them “Perfect!”
Holiday Home Tour 2015 155
The only other decoration in this room is above the tv. A perfect place for the Dept. 56 Original Snow Village circa, 1976.
Holiday Home Tour 2015 162
On Wednesday I will be participating in my dear friend Marty’s Christmas Home Tours.
You can see Part II of my tour HERE.

On Friday I will be joining Sweet Stacey for Christmas in Texas.

Oh Laura you have made over your home so beautifully, it really amazing. I love Sweet Guy's room and the garlands you have at the foot of both beds. So pretty. Your decor is always so special to me and I can't wait to see the other tours. So wish we were closer, miss you tons.

How fun! Everything looks so pretty.
Your house is super neat and tidy - quite the contrast from my own. Seriously.... ours is quite a mess in the office/guest bedroom and I really need to tackle that room and clean it up a bit before our girls arrive at the end of next week. Even still, it will never look as neat and tidy. :)

You have a beautiful home!! Thanks for sharing it with us. I love the new wall color in the bathroom...what a difference paint makes. I just wanted to jump into that puffy purple duvet in the guest room! What guest wouldn't feel very special in your attention to detail rooms. OH! I was so excited to try the candy cane marshmellows and went to get my candy canes,,,only to arrive home and discover that pretty much all the candy canes in the box were broken!! How disappointing!! Have a wonderful day!!

Perhaps it's a sign that this came up in my Pinterest feed today? Or did they know that I was thinking of your master bathroom problem?

So looking forward to your mantel reveal! You must have been so busy to get this all done in time.

Hi Laura! Oh, everything looks wonderful! What a difference you made to your new home. Love how much just a change of wall color can make! I also love how you've draped the garlands at the foot of your beds and put on the Christmas balls! So clever! Can't wait to see more. Hope you're doing well.
Be a sweetie,

Your home is so beautiful! I will be back for the rest of the tours.Your redo of the bathroom is so soft and peaceful. No one will even be looking at the vanity.
Sweet guys bedroom is a mystery to me though. Are you sure he lives in it? If I remember my son's bedroom when he was a teenager, it NEVER looked that neat and unrumpled! lol
The garlands at the foot of the bed for the special ornaments is a lovely idea.
Thank you for sharing your warm and elegant home. It is definitely ready for the holidays! :)

Everything is done so beautifully!! I feel inspired, it's too bad I'm leaving for the holidays tomorrow! I only decorated one area! I really love...REALLY LOVE the swag at the end of your son's bed where he can hang his own special ornaments. I wish I had thought of that many years ago!! Even my youngest Grandson is already 14. I'm definitely finding a swag for his room when I arrive and getting him some very special ornaments.

Your house is looking so lovely. I love that you put your son's special ornaments in his room. We also let our kids pick out special ones each year. I love the IKEA lights in the son room. I didn't realize that they attach to the wall. I just thought they had clamps only. I can't wait to see the rest of the tour. Love all the garlands.
