When You Like What You Like…Happy Accidents

Last week I revealed our new front door.

In the comments I heard over and over that our door didn’t look like the door I had found on Pinterest that said it was painted in “Kind Green”. I agree. When I went to the actual store to pick up the paint sample I was shocked by just HOW MUCH the sample didn’t look like the picture. I true case of you can’t believe everything you read/see.

<3 the shutters and everything else about this photo, the grapefruit, the old iron chairs and tables, the little topiaries behind them..<3 !

One comment though, by my dear friend Louise, was HOW FRENCH our new door color was. I hadn’t really thought about it.

beautiful garden inspiration. colors, texture and greenery simple to recreate. Château de Varenne, France But obviously my delighted subconscious (and possibly Mr. Décor’s) had.

Because last Monday I had reached my limit at looking at our absolutely atrocious backyard. It is truly one giant mess. So I once again asked myself “How do you eat an elephant?”

The answer is” “One bite at a time”.

Design Mom. I'm not a mum yet, but it's always fun to see what lovely things Gabrielle is up to.

I went over to one small corner and started attacking it~pulling, yanking, and ripping out weeds, half dead hedges and large rocks. I was then left with a big mound of dirt….that I had no idea what to do with.

love this rope swing! seat is french gray full gloss by farrow & ball

Anyone else ever do this?

So I went to Pinterest and typed in “Simple French Gardens”.

I guess by now you have surmised what I found.

Your freshly painted door looks beautiful. Maybe not what it looked like on their computers (or phones or tablets) but it looks so fresh and like it was just they way it was meant to be on a Storybook Cottage. :)
A French inspired garden would be perfect for your sweet home. It should work well for your climate, I am guessing.
Can't wait to see your transformation of this elegant elephant. :)
Happy Spring!

Laura, I am in love with the new look of your front door and home's facade! I can see some pea gravel in a courtyard-like setting in your backyard now.......

You are right- the only way to approach the back yard issue is one bite at a time. We did a backyard makeover a while back so I know the physical and mental challenges that come along with it. Inspiration photos are a great way to decide on the look you want.

Oh my back yard is a huge mess with tons of weeds. I so need to get out there and tackle this mess. Can't wait to see what you do with yours. Love your "Kind Green".

I love my back yard up north. It is itty bitty....just big enough for a bench and a couple of chairs....that is my kind of gardening!!

Laura, I have no doubt that you will have a lovely outdoor terrace and entertaining area when you have made it through the mountain!

Bonjour chère amie,

Il ne faut jamais trop vite se lamenter... attendre un peu aussi que l'oeil s'habitue et se déshabitue de l'ancienne couleur...
Toutes mes félicitations.

I love all the soft greenish/blue inspiration pictures. I had to go look for the post to show the freshly painted door. I love it. I don't remember what Kind Green looked like but your door is beautiful.

It's one of my favorite shades. It's so much work to fix a home, but rewarding.

I really, really love your new door colour, I think (I hope) I already told you so... And maybe it has something to do with me being French ?!?

I love the new color of your front door! I laughed about you attacking your yard and then not knowing what to do next - I do that all the time! Have a wonderful week!
