A “Welcome to Storybook Cottage” Summer Home Tour 2017.
I am so happy to be participating in the week-long Summer Home Tours hosted by my dear friend Marty from A Stroll Thru Life. Her new “builder basic” house is being transformed into a gorgeous home using a smart and thrifty budget.
If you are stopping by after visiting Sarah’s wonderful home Life On Virginia Street I want to say that I am so glad that you are here. I just loved all of Sarah’s summery seaside touches.
I love entertaining outdoors.
It feels so happy and carefree.
When dining al fresco I use as much glorious color as I can.
The Kate Spade tablecloth recently came from HomeGoods while the rattan chargers and green goblets were finds from last year. The gold flatware is from Target. I recently shared how to make the floral napkin rings from Dollar Store elements HERE.
Moving on to another area of the yard.
In another section of the yard, we have set up a second area for entertaining. It’s hard to believe that when we first moved in this area was just a big dirt patch.
Storybook Cottage has quite a large yard and most of it had long been neglected. We have simply just worked in one area at a time trying to create a little outdoor haven.
This little corner was transformed into a dry river bed late last summer.
For our festive gathering, the vintage German picnic table was topped with an antique French sheet.
I adore mixing and matching elements on a table.
Using both old and new objects with a variety of pattern.
The golden goblets are vintage gems that belonged to my mom, Nadine.
The melamine dinnerware is from Target.
Instructions on how to create this festive centerpiece can be found HERE.
Now Let’s Move Inside!
As far as the inside of Storybook Cottage there are just two spaces to share. The majority of the house is currently under construction as new flooring is being installed in the family room, kitchen, laundry room, a powder room, and the entry. I can’t wait to share the reveal!
A Desk and Shelving Unit was recently created for our son.
Although high school is now out I still find him using his desk on almost a daily basis.
The master bedroom is currently decorated in happy summer colors.
All of the bedding is made from lightweight fabrics in cotton or linen in an attempt to beat the heat.
At the foot of the bed is a quilt that was begun by my great~grandmother. Until recently it had sat in a closet as an unfinished topper.
I love the scalloped hem.
In Wednesday’s post, I shared how I made this bolster for under $10 ~ feather insert included.
I am the last home on the tour today. Tomorrow’s set of tours will begin with the delightful Alicia from Thrifty and Chic. She always has the most fabulous and frugal ideas.
Indeed you won’t want to miss any of the fabulous homes on the 2017 Summer Home Tour.

Laura, the colors alone are gorgeous. What a lovely setting to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
I love the rainbow of colors you chose Laura! The DIY napkin holder is just perfect for the cheery summer vibe you were going for! An honor as always, to share this Summer home tour with you! Cheers!
You've a great knack for combining old, new, cheap and valuable elements into one happy whole! I wish I'd been at that party in your backyard.
Looking forward to the new floors!
Your yard is looking very pretty with great looking grass and your touches everywhere. Love the colorful table with rattan chargers and milk glass vase full of beautiful fresh flowers! I want to be there soaking up all the beauty.
Now, for the indoor tour I am so happy for you that you have your great grandmother's quilt. Would't she be pleased to see how you cherish it and how you have dressed your bed so expertly. I'm looking for a dust ruffle that deep. Please tell me there is a source as sewing is not in my radar.
Have a great week, Laura.
I adore your sense of style and eye for detail – it's timeless. Elizabeth xxx
Laura, it's amazing how your yard has been transformed! It looks terrific, and so does your festive setting. I am in love with the MRB choices. Your grgrandmother's quilt topper has been glorified! I know you're looking forward to those new floors, and I'll be watching for that post. Happy summer!

Laura, your back yard space is amazing. I love that there are two spots for entertaining. The quilt top from your great-grandmother is so beautiful and a wonderful treasure to pass down. Such a lovely summer tour and thanks for inviting us!
I am also interested in the source of the deep dust ruffle. I also have a quilt topper from my great-grandmother. Please share how you finished it – or who finished it for you:)
Hi Carole you are listed as a “no reply” blogger so I have no way to contact you directly. I hope you will read my response here. The deep linen bed ruffle is made by Pom Pom Interiors. I bought it over 10 years ago at a sample sale for $20. They do still make the exact same bed skirt but wow is it ever exspensive! https://www.pompomathome.com/collections/bedskirts I will keep my eyes open for some more affordable options. I have seen some similar skirts in the Soft Surroundings catalog.
I will be doing a separate post on just the quilt within the next two weeks as there is a lot of info.
Thank you so much for your interest.
Gorgeous.. love the pops of color.
I love your quilt more than I can say! What a glorious room in which to awaken. And of course your table just hits the spot — cheery and festive and loads of fun! Beautiful!
What an amazing outdoor space you've created! I love the explosion of color on that tablescape. It's always fun touring your home, beautiful inside and out!
