Thanksgiving With The Friendly Village

Today I am setting the Thanksgiving table with my Johnson Brothers “The Friendly Village” plates.

The Friendly Village dish set in an old chicken feeder:

The pattern made its debut in 1953. It features various village scenes and the back is stamped with the Johnson Bros. logo.

Johnson Brothers Friendly Village Round Covered Butter Cheese Dish | eBay:

My initial vintage set of eight place settings was gifted to me by my cousin E. and his wife Sweet T.

(Yes, they are TOTALLY awesome people! :)

Estelle's: Johnson Brothers, Transferware and Toile. This is the exact china that my grandmother has! Lots of good memories around the dinner table and these plates.:

I’ve added to my collection here and there when I come across forlorn pieces at thrifts shops and estate sales.

The dishware is known as "semi-porcelain". It has the look of fine china but wears like ironstone.

Vintage Johnson Brothers The Friendly Village English Fine China Teacup and Matching Saucer. $12.00, via Etsy.:

While it is technically labeled as a brown transferware the design features several layers of colors. The variety of shades make it possible to create so many brilliant tablescape combinations.

Friendly Village:

I thought I would share some truly lovely and inspiring tablescapes created by other blogging friends who also collect the pattern.

As you can see The Friendly Village works well in early fall all the way through late winter just by incorporating various other elements.

You can create a rich table arrangement for the center using pine cones and tiny pumpkins:

I’ll be sharing more of my tablescape on Instagram.

We here at Storybook Cottage wish you and yours the happiest of Thanksgivings!

That is such a pretty set,I use to have place setting for 4 and sold it? now I wonder why I sold it? LOL guess because a single gal doesn't need 6 sets dishes
I have a friend looking for 4 cereal bowls or fruit bowls
