A Birdcage Lantern Light Fixture for the Laundry Room

We recently put a few finishing touches on our laundry room. One of which was upgrading the existing light fixture with a gilded birdcage.

So let's start from the beginning. Our laundry room was sporting a very dirty builders grade light fixture. I think this is the cheapest model one can buy at around $5.

I've had this metal birdcage since probably 2010. It last hung in a bathroom two houses ago.

Our utility room/pantry sits right next to the kitchen. My color palette inspiration for the room was inspired by Ladurée , the famed Parisian Tea House. Pale green and gold.

Indeed I color matched the walls to a tea box I had purchased on my visit last May.

A very soft gold spray paint, Gold Metal, is made by Design Master. You can find it at Michael's. (Use a coupon!)

The hard wire kit was purchased on sale at Cost Plus.

The circular electrical cover and length of chain were purchased in the lighting and hardware departments in Lowe's. Two metal keychains attached at either end of the chain. One was attached to the electrical cover and the other held the birdcage. All were silver in color and received a few coats of spray paint. Make sure you place a wadded up paper towel and some painters tape inside the electrical portion of the hard wire kit before painting to protect it. I also taped off a portion of the electrical cord.

Mr. Decor did the hard wiring. It took all of five minutes. We have posted a tutorial before HERE

The total cost for the light fixture was $13.43. The gilded cage adds such charm to the room and compliments the gold cabinet hardware and curtain rod. Both of which also started out silver and received a few coats of spray paint.

Tomorrow I will be sharing our ironing storage solution.

That's very cute- and definitely much nicer than the builder's grade fixture!

lol, we have the original builders' grade light in our laundry room and 2 other hallways in the house but have never changed them in 15 years. For one thing, our laundry room ceiling (and the other two places where these lights are) is only 7 1/2' and therefore, can't do any kind of hanging light, so we've just left them. I LOVE the bird cage light!!! That's super cute : )

Little touches make huge differences, don't they? Love the new fixture and glad you weren't totally flooded away!

It's the perfect gold touch and I love your idea to use pale green and gold to give the idea that your laudry room is a Ladurée shop! Yummy!
