What Color Should I Paint Our Front Door? Your Vote is Needed!

Oh that’s a dilemma uttered by many a homeowner.

Our current front door color is a sort of “Cherries in the Snow” red. It’s a nice enough color. But as you can see the door was not properly primed and the paint is flaking off.

There is also the area where you can see that we changed the locks upon moving in that needs to be sanded down.

In selecting potential paint colors I looked at the much larger surrounding colors that are found in the brickwork. The warm red tones of the brick clash with the cool red of the door. So while nice, the present color of the door is not quite right.

In looking at a color wheel the coppery pink brick house would look best with a soft green door. (Keeping in mind we will probably be painting the trim a softer cream later this summer.)

So I am thinking of these colors:

1. Celestial Blue (101) by Little Greene

2. Whipped Mint(MQ3-20) by Behr

3. Kind Green (SW-6457) by Sherwin Williams

4. Farrow and Ball Card Room Green

If the weather is good the door will be transformed this weekend.

So cast your vote!

Whipped mint! I've found the Behr paint works just fine, recently painted a room Whitened Sage in their paint and priimer in one and it looks well.

So your plan is a good one, but I think the Kind Green is too yellowy...

I had thought of painting my door red to match the mail box (that means I bought the paint and then didn't get a round tuit before it got too cold.) Then this week I put up an Easter wreath that I had made and boy does it clash with the mail box! And we are selling the house so I'll take the red with me and DD is planning to redo some of her stuff to a nautical theme.

Sadly I fear I will be no help with this one. I am presently battling my own fight of figuring out which colour to settle one. They are all so pretty! I actually had some of your greens pinned. But last spring I finally decided to go with a blue step (Our home has white siding) And I love the blue. But the doors are still giving me grief. I then thought maybe a deeper blue? Or a soft gold or peach? How about black? Or white? or grey? ~sigh~ Who would think doors could give a person so much grief? lol
What ever colour you choose, I am sure it will look beautiful! You colour choices are always excellent! :)

I love the kind green. I plan on painting ours this year too, but not if Hubby and I can agree on the same color.

I'm going with number 4!

Kind Green. You need a bright color that will show up. The blue is pretty, but I don't think it will stand out. Can't wait to see what you decide.

Definitely number 4! The others may appear a little too cool and lack enough oomph with your brick. Good Luck!

Kind Green ~ the others are too pale.

I love 3 or 4, I think green would be nice, not sure I like mint, kind of whimpy. Can't wait to see what you decide.

#4 for sure! I would love to paint my front door a color, but the painter (my husband) says white is it!

I love the first one and the fourth one, Laura! I've long been a big fan of Farrow and Ball colors, so if you're definitely going with green, I would choose the fourth one. If you're not married to green, the Celestial Blue is lovely, as well. Good luck with your choice! :)

#4. I'm partial because our old front door was a very similar color to that. I can't wait to see.

I am fond of Kind Green as I work for Sherwin but here is why..... you need the strength of that compared to the others to signal it is indeed the place to enter, the focal point. And of course it is a perfect foil for the brick. What ever you do it will be beautiful because your stamp of loveliness will be all over! Fun to see all your updates, thanks for sharing.

Card Room Green would be my choice, with cream woodwork and a narrow (screen frame or something) stripe of a very DARK green.....
I know...I know you didn't ask, but I can't control myself :^)
Good luck with (the weather :^( and your paint job!!

I do love celestial blue, but I also love green. But for me, blue is so calm and peaceful to look at.

Ooh I like the last picture- seems like a great green for your bricks. I'm sure whatever you chose it will look awesome. Putting your own style on this home's exterior will help you really feel it's yours! Doing the painting now is smart rather than waiting until it's too hot to paint. I hope you've been having a great weekend!

Number 1 is first choice, number 4 second choice. My 2 cents is that number 2 and 3 are too sweet. Hope this adds help and not further confusion!
