My Favorite Five~ Jane’s Favorite Beauty Products

Hi I’m Jane from Blondie’s Journal. For “My Favorite 5” I thought I would share my favorite beauty products, especially new ones that I’m trying.

I love trying new make up and I shop drugstores as much Macy's and Sephora.  I like a wide variety of things and I'm always up for trying something new.  But skin care products have always made me a little nervous; I have super sensitive, dry skin that gets rashy if you even look at it the wrong way.  I've always been a Dove soap girl and I have used Aveeno facial moisturizer for as long as I can remember.  Now that I'm getting "up there", I know I need to get realistic and start looking at some preventative measures, so I did my research and I've tried these products and I am giving them all 5 stars!!

The first is Help Me retinol night cream by Philosophy (pictured below...yes, that's my little tube!).  The very word "retinoids" scared me until I read up on them.  They are very simply derivatives of vitamin A that boost collagen production and cell turnover thus, smoothing fine lines.  It's the collagen that "plumps" up our skin.  Our collagen production slows as we age so that's why it's a great idea to start using a retinol lotion or cream as soon as you start to spot those little "laugh lines"!  I went with this brand because it was middle of the road as far as potency and it was also moderately priced.  I use it every night, a little goes a long way, and I feel like the skin around my eyes and on my forehead is much smoother. And it's very gentle, I didn't have any irritation at all.  I'm definitely going to keep using this.

Keep reading to see 4 more of Jane’s favorites!

I had also recently heard about skin brighteners and since I have dark circles under my eyes, I looked for an eye cream specifically for this problem.  I was really impressed with Origins GinZing.  Some of the ingredients are Caffeine, ginseng and Magnolia extract...very natural.  Natural optic brighteners reflect light off the darker areas while the cream moisturizes.  I rub my eyes a lot from allergies so I really need to take care of the skin around my eyes.  This makes it very smooth and my make up goes on really well.  Love this!

Gone are the days of bending over the sink, water splashing everywhere...wash, rinse, repeat.  And the mascara!  I would still wake up looking like a raccoon after scrubbing my face the night before.  Now we have these and I love them.  You don't even need to rinse your face afterward.  Just wipe your make up off and toss it.  I especially love how gentle Aveeno is and I like this package, the opening snaps closed so the little towelettes never dry out.

Oils are everywhere now for skin and hair and it can get confusing.  Which oil is best and  how do I use it?  I did a lot of reading up on this because I wanted to see if it would not only work with my dry skin, but also for my daughter who has oily skin and breakouts.  It's amazing, but this Argan oil by Josie Maran actually decreases sebum production.  We both use it and love it.  I like to put it on in the morning before my make up, it absorbs right away and my skin feels like velvet.  Josie Maran is a pioneer in the Argan oil arena, so you might like to try her version, although there are many you can find right there at your Walgreens or CVS...Olay and L'oreal have their own brands of facial oils.  And while you're at it, have a look at the oils they have for hair.  Laura has me down to just 5 favorites so I can't tell you about those but shhhhhh...try Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oil for hair! :)

Lastly, I thought I'd share my favorite nail colors.  I like Essie...you can get it in the drugstore, it doesn't chip all that fast and I think they have the BEST shades.  These are the ones I wear a lot.  Left to right:  Mochacino, Cashmere Bathrobe, Downtown Brown and Ballet Slippers.

So there are my 5 favorites.  Thank you, Laura, for having me!!

Jane I loved this post! Ballet Slippers nail polish by Essie is one of my favorites too. I can’t wait to try some of Jane’s other favorites as I too have very sensitive skin and am getting “up there”. :)

Thanks, Jane for the beauty products. As a getting up there, low maintenance, sensitive skin lady, I am interested in any product that will not irritate my skin while giving good results. I do have a question about the eye cream. I have yet to find an eye cream that I absolutely love. I have dark circle, and am prone to puffiness. Also, itchy, watery eyes. Does this cream seem to work well in spite of your allergies? A lot of products I've tried around my eyes, just make them more itchy. Also, where do you find this product? Thanks!

Those Aveeno wipes look great, esp. for travel. I've started using Neutrogena's retinol day & night serums and really like them (good price, too). Great to share all this stuff thanks Laura, and Jane!

Hi Jane! I love your tips on these beauty products. I'm at the age where I need some "extra help" for sure. :) I especially like knowing about the Aveeno wipes for eye makeup removal. I normally use liquids, and so many of them really make my eyes burn.

Thank you Laura, for another "Favorite Five" guest blogger, and I enjoyed your post Jane! Wishing you both a great weekend.

Laura and Jane, thanks for this informative post. I'm always interested in knowing about a good moisturizer. I've used the Essie nail polish and like it. I"ll pick up a bottle of Ballet Slippers because I like a neutral nail polish.
Happy Weekend to both of you!

Laura...thank you so much for inviting me to post! I hope everyone that comes by gets something out of it. I saw some questions and I answered them personally in emails.

I will refer back to this in my next post...maybe some of my followers didn't remember when I told them it was upcoming.

Thanks again...also for your flattering compliments before and after!! You are a doll!

XO,
Jane

Great post, Jane! I am a tightwad and chicken liver, so I don't like to try new makeup/skincare. I also don't like to have a bunch of products in my drawers because it makes me nervous that I need to use everything up. Thank for your tips. They should give me more confidence!

Hello, Laura! First time visitor, thanks to Jane!
