My Favorite 5~ Lisa

This weeks Five Favorites are from my dear friend Lisa of The Pennington Point. I absolutely adore her blog. She shares the most creative DIY projects, wonderfully modest fashion all while homeschooling 9 children. She and her daughters also create lovely home d├ęcor for their website Shop24.

FIVE favorites?  I have so many favorites of everything, how do I choose?!

I love so many things and being on a small budget, it's fun to explore ways to have favorite things around without breaking the bank. So I shall share my 5 favorite ways to add personality to a room without spending a dime.

1. DUMPSTER DIVING

No seriously.  I don't dive in dumpsters but I will hit the brakes going 70 miles an hour if I see something in a trash pile that I could reinvent.  Last week I pulled an old ladder from a neighbor's trash and he said, "You don't want that! The bottoms of the legs are all rotten."  But I took it home, cut off those rotten bottoms and now it's a display shelf.  FREE!  I grabbed a screen door last year from the trash and I use it to add interest to a tall wall.

3. PLANTS

But not your grandma's ivy that crawls wildly over everything.  Nope, just little pots filled with a simple greenery fills in any space.  Plants always add a softness and they are readily available.  I don't grow plants 'cuz I'm a black thumb kinda girl.  But I keep several fake ones on hand for when I need a filler.

4. BLACK

I always say every room needs something black.  Even if you're into light decorating, adding something black really anchors a spot and gives it interest.  I keep a can of black spray paint around for when I need a little sumpthin-sumpthin to add to a shelf or table.  I've even painted old toys black for a fun, playful theme.  The whole chalkboard trend fits perfectly with this favorite.  I spray painted these old frames black to create a fun display over my couch.

5. Speaking of chalkboard....I have to say my last fave would be WORDS.

I love words.  I love saying them.  I love writing them.  I love reading them.  And I love decorating with them.  Words (or even a single letter) on a pillow or plate or even a is a fantastic way to inject your personal style into a room with little or no cost!

That's it!  I hope you like my list.  If not I will find something else to share, like my 5 favorite ways to recover from rejection.  I'm so proud that I made it without getting all into my other faves like snacks or music.  Although I did have to stop myself from going into my favorite books.  That was hard.

Thanks Laura for having me!  You've been one of my favorites for years now and I'm blessed to be able to hang out with you today.  This might go into my top five faves of March!

Thank you Lisa! Now you all know why I love The Pennington Point.

I also have to mention her darling painted piano which gave 1000’s of women permission to paint wood and not feel guilty about it, as well as her great vintage lockers. Lisa is also currently hosting a wonderful GIVEAWAY that you can enter HERE.

I love a good dumpster dive and thoroughly enjoyed this, Laura.

Got your email and will reply later. I have a headache that would stop a train.

I admire Lisa's spirit, attitude and talent (as I do yours Laura). As a teacher, I am still in awe of the fact that Lisa runs a household, an esty shop and blogs while home schooling 9 children - superwoman. From my experience, it is always easier teaching someone else's children rather than your own.
Thank you for introducing me to Lisa's blog and creativity Laura. XXX

Thanks Laura for introducing us to Lisa. She is amazing. I share her spirit of finding things in the trash and making them into great finds for her home.
I have been known to do that. It is unbelievable what people throw away.

I am looking forward to checking out her blog in more detail.
