All Creatures Great and Small

During the holiday season animal adoptions are at an all time high. Having lived my entire life with animals it has been a privilege and a blessing to love and be loved by many of God’s creatures.

If you are considering a pet perhaps look into adoption versus purchase. As you may know both of my kind and loving fur boys were adopted. I have found them to be the most loyal dogs I have ever known. It is as if they are eternally grateful to be rescued.

Thank you for leaving such lovely words on my blog the other day. We adopted Priscilla our malti-poo (or she adopted us) May 14th, 2011, and she has brought so much joy into our lives. She was approximately 3 years old and someone had just let her go, or maybe she escaped, they found her matted and alone, that is all we know about her previous life. We are so grateful that she found her way into our lives. I would like to believe that her current life is a pretty good one. I think she likes living here with us and we couldn't imagine life without her. She is loved! I hope you have a lovely holiday!

Tomorrow celebrates the 13th anniversary of my fur baby adoption. She has saved me over and over. She loves her adopted fur brother too. Many thanks to the Humane Society.

Such a sweet post, Laura; I love the first picture. :) This is a good topic to bring up right now; thanks for reminding us all that we are charged with caring for God's creatures.

I just heard from the Humane Society -- well it will be easier to copy/paste from their FB page rather than try and interpret in my own words :)

"A victory for homeless pets!

After nearly two hours of debate, the Phoenix City Council voted 5-3 in favor of passing an ordinance spearheaded by Councilmembers Thelda Williams and Tom Simplot and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to ban the sale of puppy mill pets in pet stores and require pet stores to only sell animals that have come from shelters or rescue groups. The ordinance will go into effect 30 days from today.

This is a significant day in animal welfare as this victory opens the door towards greater awareness of shelter pets while also giving them increased outlets for adoption. Additionally, it's another step towards combating the extreme pet overpopulation crisis in Maricopa County and ultimately saving more lives. Phoenix will join many other cities, including Los Angeles, San Diego, El Paso and Austin that have implemented similar laws.

We'd like to recognize the efforts of HSUS and the Members of the City Council – Mayor Greg Stanton and Councilmembers Thelda Williams, Tom Simplot, Daniel Valenzuela and Michael Nowakowski – who helped Arizona become a leader in animal welfare.

We'd also like to give a special thanks to everyone who pitched in at the last minute and contacted their Council representative to encourage their support for the ordinance. You made a real difference and helped save the lives of homeless pets today. Thank you!"

I am soooooooooo EXCITED about this!!! Both my previous dog and my current (Dandy) are rescue dogs!!!!!
