Goldilocks and the Three End Tables

Yes, I am STILL decorating the man cave. It is truly a process. Mr. Décor had requested a surface to set a drink and magazine down on and I agreed. I loved the idea of a painted piece of furniture and hit the thrift stores with a vengeance. Of course since I was looking for an end table there were none to be found. Sigh.

So the next best thing was to make a visit to HomeGoods. I brought home three contenders.

The first was too tall.

The second was too feminine for the space.

But the third, well it was just about perfect. The top of the table was equal in height to the couch arm.

The finish of the end table perfectly matched the small “Benno” entertainment center I had found in the Ikea “as is” section for $29.00. This was quite the score since the regular price is $99.00. I guess the markdown was made for the one small scratch I found near the back which I can easily live with.

BENNO TV unit IKEA A cord outlet in the back makes it easy to gather all cords in one place. 2 open compartments for a DVD-player, etc.

I have yet to find a lamp I like. The first one is going back. It does nothing for the space.

I am thinking a white drum shade that I can add a bit more of the Greek Key trim to. Of course can I find what I am looking for?

Of course not!

I am loving the pieces you chose!!! And sorry for the problems with the Cameo :( I got the Portrait awhile ago, and I am still trying to learn it :( I have heard that there is a lot of YouTube videos out there with great tutorials, I just haven't had the time to sit and watch :)

You are so right about end tables, they need to be just right! I love the one you picked. What a steal on the Ikea piece too. I never find anything in the As Is section but my husband loves checking it out. Could you add Greek key with ribbon or a stencil if you can't find what you're looking for in the shade?

I have one just like the first one that I bought at an estate sale. I agree it's just too tall. That's why I have yet to paint it and use it. Trying to figure out where to use it.

Love the choice you made.

Laura,
Perfect table! I love how you shop for the bargain that looks like big bucks! We have a chain, Big Lots, where a friend of mine says they carry a pretty good selection of shades. Good luck!

Isn't that always the way when you go looking in thrift stores for something specific, Laura? It has happened to me many times. I like the options you found at Home Goods and really like the one you went with for the man cave. Love your idea of finding a lamp where you can add the Greek key design to the shade.

I think the table you selected is perfect, Laura. For a man cave, I think a stained finish just seems more appropriate. The painted tables are pretty, but they don't say "man cave" to me. :) How great that you found such a wonderful bargain on the Ikea entertainment center. I love the idea of adding more Greek key trim to a white lampshade; I've always liked the classic look of a Greek key border.

I'm enjoying watching the man cave evolve, Laura -- thanks for sharing the details with us. Have a lovely day!

Definitely the right choice for the man cave. Of course, you might hold on to the round one--it seems awfully cute to be returned!

Agree, the 3rd one is perfect, and that entertainment table is a fab score Laura! Good luck with the lamp!

Laura,
The third one is just right and I'm glad you are not painting it. I too am on a never ending search for the perfect lamp. Good luck!

The table you picked is perfect. Will you be taking the lamp back? It looks like it still has the tag on it. I think a drum shade will be perfect very masculine.

Wait just a second--Did you get two tables? Will you get two tables? Will they match if you do?

Love the table and wish you success with a lamp. There just aren't many lamp selections at the stores near me.

How lucky you live close enough to stores so you can bring the tables home to 'try them on'. :) I don't know about you but I think I would be running around the house looking for places to put the other two as well. They are so cute! Might save you a lot of shopping around when you start looking for another one! Just sayin...
What about a floor lamp for the guy room. Plus no worry about it getting knocked off the table. For some reason, boys knock lamps off tables...a lot! lol
Thanks for sharing your decorating stories! :)

Why is it that when you need a specific item it is nowhere to be found! I like how it's all coming together for you!
