Spring 2013 Hair Trends

Girls I feel haggard. Several months have gone by since I last had a good haircut. I’ve been getting by with cutting my bangs myself but it’s definitely starting to show. Because my hair is fine and thin I also try to add in highlights but it has been almost a year since I’ve done that.

I think I just need to make the time. I know it will make me feel SO much better. But I was so out of the loop I had no idea what the current trends are. I fell instantly in love with Michelle Williams at the London premiere of “The Great and Powerful Oz. (Side bar~ has anyone seen this film? Tell all.)

I watched a few of the awards shows and soft curls seem to be popular such as Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar look.

Jennifer Garner had a beachy feel at the SAG awards.

There is a definite retro vibe. I think this trend will further increase once the 2013 version of The Great Gatsby premieres next month. Amy Adams wears it to perfection.

During fashion week long hair of course reigned. The sleek knotted chignons at Ralph Lauren were so chic.

Braids were big at Balmain, Marchesa… and many others. The looks were intricate and interesting. This carried over onto the Oscar red carpet. I love Lucy… Liu.

But I think my favorite look for long hair was at Michaels Kors. Sleek hair held back by a long elastic.

The low pony is also big. Zooey Deschael is too darling.

I think the hair accessory market was cornered by Chanel. You can’t go wrong with pearls I always say. :)

But I also adored the bows at Vuitton. It’s so…Audrey.

Short hair is definitely making a comeback thanks to stars such as Charlize Theron. Of course you do need the right bone structure and lots of confidence.

A softer look is worn by Anne Hathaway.

Asymmetrical cuts are still increasing in popularity. I like the longer length Marion Cotillard is sporting.

In real life I need something easy for the upcoming hot Phoenician summer. I adore this asymmetrical look with caramel highlights.

A shorter take on soft waves looks great here.

I watched this fantastic video to learn how to create them.

What spring hair trends do you love?

I'll probably get something done before I go to Haven....so I don't embarrass myself! OZ was wonderful....answered all those DEEP questions of How and Why?...!

It's been at least 3 years since I last had my hair cut and yet it's only just below my ears, touching the nape of my neck. My hair doesn't grow past my shoulders, or at least I don't think it does because look how long it's been growing and look how short it still is. My goal was to let it grow out long by 50. Well, I still have 2 more years... we'll see..

In the meantime, I can't do any of those lovely styles you showed, except probably that last blond one.

Good luck with your choice! :)

They filmed the movie here in Michigan about 15 minutes from my home. My husband sold them the equipment to produce the steam that comes out of the calliope when James Franco plays it. He said Mila Kunis was on the set that day, and she is very pretty and that she smiled at him and the tech guys when they went by. Lol.

I have thin fine hair and I love it short. This last time I had it cut to just below my ears. It takes me all of 5 min to blow it dry and have it curl under. So easy to take care of.
My cousins and I went to see the new Oz movie in 3D and we LOVED it. It is amazing and will definitely be buying it when it comes out. It really did answer some questions about the movie we have all seen for years. We even talked about going to see it again this weekend. Well worth going to see!!!

I never know what to do with my fine hair. Next week I will be going to the salon, thanks for giving me some new ideas to choose from.

Have a great weekend. xo

Getting hair cut next week, and have been dreading the decision. I am currently in love with the sweet retro curls, but that would require DOING something with my hair! It would also need to grow out more (shivers! ). Looking forward to see what you decide!

Just before Christmas I had my hair cut into a bob just below my chin. I didn't like it, at least not on me. Hubby didn't like it much either. Then I started getting comments like "oh you cut your hair". So I have been growing it out for the past few months. I really have begun to feel more like me. While I admire short cuts and lots of cute bobs, I am a shoulder length or longer girl. Can't wait to see what you do with yours.

Big Hugs,
Susan and Bentley

Laura,
Yet another thing we have in common -- baby fine hair. I finally made it to the salon on Wednesday with my mother in tow and we both got our 'dos' on. Like the comment above, my hair is never shorter than shoulder length but usually longer. So what have you decided on?

Hi Laura!

Such beauties! I am definitely short short hair like Charlize... but girl do I wish I had a face like hers!! But I just don't have time for a lot of hair these days. I'm busy busy being retired, more so than when I worked!LOL You are a gorgeous gal and so many of these hairdos would look fab on you. Would love to see what you would chose.

With my thin, fine, grey hair, the only style that seems to work is to keep it permed--but I am so tired of it! I think many of these styles would suit you perfectly!

That's soo funny, I was having this very conversation with a colleague today. Haven't had my haircut in months, my husband as been cutting my fringe. Thanks for the inspiration!

Honestly, I still love a classic bob. Does that make me really dated? It can't make me as dated as my hair color obviously is. A man (old acquaintance) was standing next to his completely gray wife today and said to me, "I see you're going with Tanya's hair color these days..."

Um, no. I tried to explain that my stylist has breast cancer and I can't be burdening her with my highlights for my BLONDE hair right now, but he kept going on about my "gray" hair.

I. could. have. popped. him. in. the. nose.

I just got a permanent and it is cut so short, I can only do one thing. I love some of the bob's and am happy that style is coming back. I just remember how hot it gets here, so maybe my short hair is ok. Hugs, Marty

I love long hair when it is on someone who takes excellent care of it! My 7 year old had hair down to her waist till yesterday. She grew it out for locks of love. Now it is short again and I just love it! I think I'm a short hair gal for the most part! I know you will look awesome in whatever you choose Laura! And I wish I could get away with not going to get my hair done for that long! My gray is already coming through and it's only been about 6 WEEKS!

never thought about changing my hair for spring, usually I change in the summer because it's so hot, but these are all lovely inspirations. And btw, I saw OZ, and we loved the movie!

Laura, you should see Tiffany at Red Door for a free consultation. I KNOW you will love her. April 7 to13 is BOTO (buy one service try another for half off) week.

Oh how I long for locks that can be coiffed - I have eternally-dry frizz that has to be shorn instead of cut and styled! XXX

I know the exact feeling you are writing about. Even though other people probably really think you look fine, there is just something uplifting about getting a new haircut. It lifts both the mind and spirits.
