Potential Google Reader Alternatives

I had heard a few months ago that Google was going to axe Google Reader. Booooooo!

I am finding it hard this morning to “get happy!”

Like many of you I was not happy about this decision. As my days are so jam packed right now Google Reader makes it possible to keep up with all my favorite blogs.

(I will once again say that even though I don’t have the 1-2 hours a day available for leaving comments/responding to emails due to school, etc. I am reading your blogs. You guys fill me with inspiration and happiness! Can I get a round of “I Think I Love You”? :)

So, what’s a girl to do?

I found an excellent article HERE.

Each of the five alternative readers listed are free.

I’ll be test driving each one and will report back on my findings.

In the meantime I will be making sure that I am a “follower” on all my favorite blogs so that in a crunch I can read via the old blogger format. (I am currently using Google+)

Now, let’s see if we can turn those frowns upside down.

We have a dream that we’ll go blogging together,

Hi Laura,
I'm not sure what all of that means - I view the blogs I follow through my dashboard on my gmail/blogger account - is that Google reader? I no longer write my own blogs, just read.

Love, Linda

I'm confused...what is Google Reader?

I keep up with folks via email subscriptions via Feedburner & joining Google Friend Connect. (which weren't they doing away with GFC at one time?)

Help :)

I just heard about this and it confuses me. Like Linda, I follow my blogroll on my dashboard. Is this going to go poof?!

Thanks so much for looking in to all of this and passing on the alternatives. You are so sweet!

I just found about this when I signed into Google Reader this a.m. and, being a newer blog author, I'm not as familiar with it as some of the more seasoned bloggers are. I have found it to be an easier and more efficient way to catch up on my blogroll, which is pretty time consuming, even using the reader. I'm not sure what all the implications are, but I'll be checking back with you to see other tools to use and which are most efficient.

Oh my, this is all too much..One blogger I follow just stated that in July we will be losing our "Friend Connect"..How will we follow and how will others follow us and how will we know who is following..I'm really confused now.?! I, like the other ladies above, follow blogs through my Blogger Dashboard so I'm not sure what that means to me either..ugh.

Thanks for looking into this for those of us who are so up on all of this. xo

I follow the blogs I read regularly by RSS feeds--that way I can see when a new post is up and can go visit.

I'm looking into the same thing, Laura. I've loved using Google Reader. I'd better check to make certain that everything I've subscribed to there is also in the blogger feed. Oh dear.

I'm checking out Feedly. Do let us know what you decide.

I have same dilemma with the ladies, Laura.

Hope who are keen of what it is, can share and explain.

Thank you.

Thanks for doing the research into this. I use Google Reader and haven't a clue what alternative to go with. I don't know what Google+ is and I follow tooo many blogs to imagine following thru email???

I'm soo confused.

I got tired of all the readers deleting/not deleting, going away/not going away -- so about a year ago, I created a private blog that I named Julie's blogs -- and I have all my peeps listed there and when someone updates -- it updates for me :)

I'm trying out feedly. It imported all my subscriptions so I don't have that build-it-again-from-scratch feeling. It is taking me a while to get used to the format but there are lots of options.

Hi Laura, like you I am frusterated with Google! Thanks for all this research! I am currently using Google + as well, but am interested in what else is out there. Thanks for the info!

PS Love the Patridge Family tunes! They made me smile today xo

I keep a link to your blog on my sidebar so no matter what they do with connections, I can still follow your inspiring blog.
Hope things are a little less hectic for you. Have a great weekend. :)
