Colors Of The World…

Spice up your life! Over the weekend we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with a dinner party. It was kind of impromptu which I love.
cinco 001
The table setting was colorful, happy and easy. Last week I was at an estate sale and spied a lil something peeking out from under piles of other things. I tried to walk away but I am such a sucker for handiwork. I needed another embroidered table cloth like I need… well, you know.

It was a great deal and in perfect condition. I thought the bright happy colors captured the spirit of the Mexican culture so onto the table it went. I then grabbed various glassware and started creating. Vintage lace was gathered on the sewing machine and hot glued to the edge of a dollar store vase. It kind of reminded me of a Flamenco dancers skirt.
(Yes, my glue gun is horrendous. I’ve had it forever. I keep trying to find a new one and they don’t work as well. I will totally cry when it dies.)

Filling out the space were thrift store milk glass vases and Pier 1 salt and pepper shakers.

I asked my friend (and neighbor) Kristina for a few of her palm fronds, wrapped them around my finger and set them inside the bowl where they expanded to fit the glass.

Some hydrangea’s, yellow roses and alstroemeria lilies helped complete the display.

Next came the dinnerware and utensils.

Simple white dishes and everyday silverware.

The plates were topped with vintage linen damask napkins that feature the Mr.’s initials.

As for the food, we live in Phoenix where absolutely wonderful Mexican food can be found in many of the grocery stores. I made it easy on myself and just picked up some favorites
Because your friends don’t really care if you cooked or not. They are just happy you called and will eat anything that is delicious.

Happy memories were made while the stereo cranked out tunes by Ricky Martin, Gypsy Kings and yes The Spice Girls.

That is amazing for an impromptu lunch! You are the hostess with the mostest!
I am always picking up little bits of hand made linens. It hurts to think that someone worked so hard on creating something so pretty and then no one appreciated it enough to keep it in the family.
The prefect glue gun is hard to find. My old one looks like yours...glue and all! LOL
Hope you are having a great day! :)
ps thank you for the reminder. I voted

This is my kind of post and table from the wonderful tablecloth score to the palm fronds in the bowl. That was clever! I always feel that the stems in the vase need a little camouflage or personality. You did it.

And the food... ohmygoodness...

I do the same thing at the estate sales, last week I limited myself to some napkins. I always tell myself I can just sell it in my shop when I'm done but the linen cupboard is full so I've put myself on a short leash now :)
We went to a friend's for a Cinco party but I was still feeling the spirit last night and made more Mexican food. I did not set up a lovely table like you though.

I haven't been to visit in such a long time! I love your header - such pretty colors.

What beautiful florals you made for the lunch and I agree, there are so many easy things to pick up these days to take the pressure off. The enchiladas look fabulous.

This is truly a fun & colorful tablescape & perfect for Cinco de Mayo. What part of Phoenix do you live in? We live in Gilbert, & have made it a quest to try as many Mexican Restaurants as possible, all the while looking for the best. Any suggestions?

I really enjoyed your post about mason jars. I love them, too!

Laura, beautiful table setting...everything looks so yummy, too. I love embroidered linens, too, and your tablecloth find is such a pretty item. Looks lovely with the napkins and the delicious and colorful food.

I also love what you've done with the mason jars. Very creative, bright and cheery.

So fun and cheery! I wish I lived close enough to join you for such a dinner. :)

Hope you're enjoying a wonderful week,

P.S. Thanks so much for your sweetest comments, especially on encouraging me with my photography. I haven't been getting into as much anymore (leaving that for daughter Sarah).

I do not know HOW I got here, but here I am. Will have to back up & try to figure out what I did.

Love the table decor ... it is so bright & inviting. What a bargain for the table cloth. If it is Mexican, I'll eat it for sure.
