Hey Girl! I’ve Tweeted, Got Burned and Networked

Back in November Google announced that it would be shutting down Google Friend connect as of March 1, 2012. Well, apparently I live under a rock since I just found out about it last week.

I have had the Google Friend Connect button on the sidebar of my blog for a few years now. From the beginning I preferred to refer to DTA (Décor To Adore) readers as “Adorable People” versus the term “Followers” which was later changed to “Members”.

Google Friend Connect has indeed been my friend. It has allowed me to “follow” all of my favorite blogs. But apparently between Facebook, Networked Blogs, Feedburner and Twitter it is now a bit of a dinosaur.

So, I’ve decided to get on board and give the public what it wants.

The closet comparison to Friend Connect is Networked Blogs available through Facebook. I have had a DTA Facebook page for awhile and many of you choose to read the blog there.

The Networked Blog button has now been added to the top of my sidebar so that you may join. (If you are reading this via a reader you will have to click on the blog post title to be directed to the actual DTA page.)

For those of you who prefer to read blog updates via Twitter there is now a DTA homepage where blog posts are available and yes, I even provide an occasional “tweet”.

Décor To Adore Twitter Page

I have also received several requests from my overseas readers to add Feedburner as a subscription option. Having lived overseas I am well familiar that the internet connection is not as reliable and it’s sometimes easier to read a blog via email.

The feedburner subscribe button can also be found on the sidebar of the DTA blog.

Finally for those of you who love Pinterest you may want to check out the Décor To Adore boards. My “Hey Girl” collection is currently being repinned at lightening speed. It would appear that we all enjoy a good laugh.

Now, I am off to go glitter something because Mr. DTA actually says things like this:

Let’s be PIN PALS,

Laura

Laura, if your blog is hosted by blogger, you will be okay. Only blogs not hosted by blogger will no longer have access to the "friends" widget.

Laura I must be under a rock with you because I had no idea. I hope it is not true. As you there are only so many hours in the day to allot for social media!

I love all of those great friends and bloggers who come to read and comment,

So I had no idea about Friend connect. Things just change so fast in the wide world of web. My kids are up on everything and i find out by sheer accident. I do like Networked Blogs, which do make it easy to keep up on FB. Thanks for letting us know how to keep up!

Happy Weekend to you!

Hi Laura - I guess I'm content to stay under my rock because I don't FB, Twitter, or Cloud. I just know in my heart I would be so addicted that I wouldn't have time for my face-to-face relationships, hahaha! Loved your hubby's comment. At Christmas we were getting ready to go out after I'd been opening glittered Christmas cards. Dan looked at me and said "um, do you know you have glitter all over your face?" I said "yep, it's what gives me my youthful glow!" Praying for you, enjoy your weekend...

I am glad the Blogger blogs will still be OK since I don't connect my blog to my FB. I prefer to keep FB out of as many of my connections as possible. The have a crazy habit of changing privacy settings too often without warnings!
Thanks for the info and hope things are going OK for you and your family.

ps..glitter is the herpes of the craft world. It does make it so much easier to identify a fellow crafter though! :)

I just do not have the energy OR the savvy to do what you did. Kudos to you! I do hope that what I heard is true and blogger blogs will still have GFC! Love the Hey Girl, I've had some on Pinterest boards for a while now and they really crack me up!

you made me laugh! and my hubby says those sorts of things too. :)
my reading of the blogger page seemed to say that our blogs would NOT be affected by that change...i may just GO hide under a rock if they take away my friend connect!
hugs from here!

So glad to see you are back & fine. Missed hearing from you, Laura.

I don't understand ANY of this blogger 'stuff' so I hope I am going to be ok when they do thee 'changes'. Someone would have to look & tell me if I am ok or not. IF not, then I guess I shall fade away.

Have a lovely day ~

1. I, too, was under the rock.
2. I hope Bloggers aren't affected by being under the rock.
3. Glitter is fairy poo, not dust.
4. I, too, am still praying for you.

Happy New Year!

Ok, I'm an idiot. I have tried 10 to link up this way. I even made a blog facebook because I don't want a personal one. (Sorry. Just don't.)

Every time I try to link up, I'm just a faceless blob looking facebook user and not the profile I want.

Discouraging.
I feel like giving up blogging if I can't even follow my favorite blogs easily.

I am glad to hear the news that if you have Blogger the Google Friend connect will still work. I do not Facebook because I don't like it. I love blogging friends and prefer not to have so many distractions. I can't read all the blogs I like and comment on them as it is. I certainly do not need another social media to check and keep up with. Haven't done pinterest which I know I would like because you have to do it through Facebook. When I was on facebook I received invitations from men that made me feel uncomfortable.

I enjoy your blog very much. Thank you for keeping us up on things. I do have a question today..... My google reader does not seem to be updated. Is this related to the change? Is there something I should doz?
