Get organized...or not.

There is something about January that brings out the clean in me. I am currently in the midst of reaching into the tiny crevices of my home and coming out with handfuls of crumbs and dust bunnies. However my family is ahem, not quite so enthusiastic. I have perhaps found the perfect solution for those who eternally are trying to create a carpet of clothes.

Designer/artist Tom Price created a series of chairs for an exhibition entitled From Now To Eternity. He placed layers of polyester clothing into a hot steel former that had been molded into a seat shape. The plastic in the polyester then melted and transformed into a hard, shiny chair.

While this is indeed recycling at its most creative I don't think I will be making room in my home any time soon for one of these creations. Although certain members of my family, who shall remain nameless, have tried their best to convince me that their lack of being able to connect their clothes with the hamper means that they are merely trying to create fine art. Um, sure.

You may have noticed a new look to my blog. It too got the once over. Love it? Hate it? I'd love to hear what you like, dislike, and would love to see more of. (Don't worry, my skin is thick.)
I will return on Monday with more decor to adore.

Those are cool chairs, Laura I am sure my daughters would love to have them to pile more clothes on top of...that way it would all blend in. My pet peeve is the 'carpet' of clothing on the floor includes both clean and dirty. Ha!! And do you think they sort it?? It ALL goes in to the wash, if and when they decide to go that route.

Great post!

Love your new design and meant to tell you that. Don't even TWEAK it!! :-)

I LOVE your new look! Blue is my favorite color, so I love the beautiful pictures in your header and your blue title. Those chairs are something else, aren't they? I believe I will pass on owning one though. LOL! Have a great day. Love & blessings from NC!

Laura I love the new look. I like that it encompasses everything that interests you - from home and garden to hobbies to color. Some day I will figure out how to do this without paying some one else. LOL.
Love the look! Karen

Oh my! I didn't know those were chairs, I thought it was just a pile of clothes. I think I'll pass on those designer chairs, I have enough laundry piles:) I love your new look. Have a great weekend! ~Lisa

I do like your new blog look, Laura! I had meant to tell you {if I didn't already}.

Yes, I recall my daughter having a "chair" like that in her room when she was a teen at home. Except I didn't quite refer to it as "art"!

I like the new look Laura...very elegant, just like I imagine you to be. The blue and white give it sort of a winter look. Nice!

Not too keen on those clothes-pile chairs! Clever idea, but I think any teenager can produce those quite easily with what they wear every day! I know mine can!

I know my children, and now grandchildren would love to be able to convince their mom that would be the way to go in their rooms!! Nice try huh? lol
Thank you for sharing them!! Got give him a hand on recycling!!

Hope you have a wonderfully blessed day dear.

Laura,

I like the look of your blog. In fact, your background is the exact blue I want to paint the walls above the bead board in my bathroom. What color did you use to paint your blog wall?
I also like the chair featured in your banner. However, I don't like the dorm chairs featured in your post!
Have a great weekend.

Laura, you always do everything with such class....I LOVE the new Blog look.

I do the same every January. I clean every nook and cranny in my home. Right now I am doing a major reorganization of my studio and I am finding things I didn't know I had!!

I cleaned out three drawers and 4 shelves in my kitchen this morning and it feels good!

Happy Friday!

Love your new look my dear.. clean lines.. nice locations of widgets. Just a nice place to spend some time when I 'come in' to your home.

Now for those chairs.. YIKES.. I'd be wanting to toss each item as a load of laundry as soon as I saw it. I'd pass in a heart beat.. in fact if he were here I'd say.. ish.. no thanks.. but since he's not.. I'll just keep me word to meself thank you very much.

See I can be very broadminded.. (not in the most tactful way mind you)

Enjoy your weekend.

with love,

That's one problem we don't have in our home. Oh sure, there is the occasional clothes on the chair--even I am guilty of that, but the rest is always hung up or put in the hamper.

This was just too funny. I remember the days of having this chair design in my daughters room, not even realizing some day people would actually be buying them.. lol. Lots of shaking up going on around here as well. hugs ~lynne~ Love the new blog header...

Hey! You made me spit out my water when I read your comment on my pitiful blog.

I love your new look and I especially love the idea of turning The Maven's piles of clothes into a practical piece of furniture.

Excuse me, I must dash off to the furniture store now...

The chair is hysterical. I wonder what this chair sells for, I'm sure there are teenagers everywhere that would love to know...l.o.l.

Fascinating! I don't know quite what to say about those chairs, but I do have a closet shot that resembles them somewhat. ;-)

I'm doing the same thing, Laura, and I'm taking a break to do it. I still have all of my Christmas up (except the stockings which are packed away), but I went out and bought a dozen new boxes to help get me organized. Now, I'm going to hit the ground running tomorrow!

I really did take a picture of the mess in my study closet. I can't believe I just shared that with the world! ;-)

Sheila

Hi Laura!!!
I agree about the cleaning and de-cluttering in January!!! Something about taking it all down and storing it again, makes me want to clean from top to bottom, which I got it all done this past week!!! YEAH!!!! Ceiling fans to the tops of cabinets to dusting my shutters, to tossing out old clothes!!! it feels so good to me to de-clutter again!!!!
I love that it is done though!!!!
hugs,
jamie

Hey, I have art just like that, like everyone else. I have not been blogging for awhile, so I don't quite remember old blog. This was is very crisp and clean looking. Your blue is very tranquil.
What is funny though, mine was like this, but green, and I was bored yesterday, so I went out and tried something new? Not sure I like mine though?
We always want to try new things, right? We can always change our minds or tweak things too :)
I really enjoyed catching up on your blog.
Blessings in 2010!

I love the new look to your blog, Laura. It's very streamlined and that's what I prefer. Thus, those chairs - uh, no thanks. :P My house might not be totally dust free in every corner, but at least it gives the appearance of total neatness. Even daughter's room, with her pile of clothes, doesn't stay like that for long because I just can't stand disorder. Since we took down all of the decorations, I decided not to replace some of the usual decor - so our home looks very sparse, but neat. I like it like this. :)
